However, that is sadly not how things work with dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the yelping is a new behavior or only happened a few times, try to think about what was going on at the time it occurred.&nbsp; Do you think something could have frightened or excited your dog?&nbsp; Were they showing anxiety at the thought of you leaving or having just returned from being gone?&nbsp; Had you been consumed with an important task and the yelping was your dog\u2019s way of trying to get some attention?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another thing you can think about to help you determine why your dog is yelping is the time of the day when it occurs.&nbsp; Have you noticed any patterns around which time(s) your dog is yelping?&nbsp; It could be tied with needing to go to the bathroom or take a walk or wanting to be fed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-you-should-do-if-your-dog-is-yelping\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What You Should Do if Your Dog is Yelping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The appropriate course of action to take when a dog is yelping will look different depending on what you decide is the underlying reason for the yelping.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below are a few different approaches to consider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"dont-encourage-the-yelping-behavior\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019t Encourage the Yelping Behavior<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes, yelping can be a learned behavior.&nbsp; If your dog yelped once for a legitimate reason, and then got a lot of attention from you, it can encourage the behavior to continue.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, if you rushed right over to your dog and started petting them and asking whether they are OK, they may begin to associate yelping with getting a lot of pets and love.&nbsp;
