Why Is Dog Dental Hygiene So Important?

How often do you brush your own teeth? Twice a day, probably. Mouthwash and floss too? Well did you know that dogs need their teeth brushing everyday as well?

Although it might be weird to imagine, veterinarians actually recommend regular cleanings for your dog. This is in order to prevent plaque, tartar, and bacteria from causing a whole bunch of nasty issues.

Just like with humans, the diet of a domestic dog includes a lot of things they probably wouldn’t come across in the wild.

It’s lovely to give your dog lots of treats, so long as you’re keeping up with their dental hygiene as you do so.

A cleaning at a veterinarian’s will be performed under anesthesia. It will really get up into the gum line to remove tartar. But in between these sessions you should still be brushing your dog’s teeth. Keep them as clean as possible so that their mouth stays as healthy as possible.

If you fail to keep on top of your dog’s dental health, it could lead to serious issues. These include cavities, gingivitis (clinically bad breath) or ever periodontal disease, all of which will cause more issues later in life. They;d certainly cost you more money in vet bills

Brush Your Dog’s Teeth

Brush Your Dog’s Teeth

If you want to make sure your dog is as healthy as it can be, but have no idea where to start, then let me help you out a little.

First off, you’ll want to get them used to the sensation of having a brush in their mouths. The majority of dogs will have never really had to let something be in their mouth if it wasn’t to be chewed or eaten, so it might take a little while.

You’ll want to start by letting your dog get used to you running your finger over their teeth, and rewarding them if they let you.

Then use your finger to apply some doggy toothpaste to their teeth, again, treat and praise them for allowing it.

If you continue doing this, they will eventually adjust and understand the process. At that point you’ll be able to keep your fingers and use a toothbrush instead.

A lot of dogs, however, probably won’t like the process at all, either because of needing to be handled, because you’re in their mouth, the feel of the toothbrush, or even just because they don’t like the taste of the toothpaste.

Because of this, it can be very stressful for you and the dog both to actually get to a point where you can brush your dog’s teeth, especially if you’re trying to get them used to it when they’re a little older.

If that’s the case, then you might need to consider an alternative.

Keeping Clean Without Brushing

If you find that brushing your dog’s teeth is too much of a hassle or too stressful for either of you, then don’t worry, there are still some alternatives to try.

For example, you could use canine toothpaste, that can come as something they need to lick, or you could try using dental treats.

Treats are probably the most common, and even if you didn’t know about needing to brush your puppy’s teeth, you probably know about dental treats.

Typically, these come as short, grooved sticks that dogs can chew on to their heart’s content. These act as a brush as your dog bites it, all whilst they think they’re getting an awesome treat.

You can combine the treat with toothpaste to also fight bacteria and plaque with enzymes.

This is exactly the kind of thing that Bark Bright offers.

Bark Bright

As previously mentioned, Bark Bright is a subscription service. It delivers dental hygiene products to your door that will keep you on top of your dog’s teeth.

Bark Bright includes dental chews as well as a special enzymatic dog toothpaste. The toothpaste is designed to clean your dog’s teeth when used alongside the chews.

Their subscription box is intended to give you enough supplies for a month’s worth of dental hygiene products for your dog, based on your hound’s size and needs.

These products are sent straight to your door on a monthly basis. And if you have more than one dog, you can easily add them to your subscription.

History of Bark Bright

This company was first founded in 2011 when certified dog lovers Carly Strife, Henrik Werdelin, and Matt Meeker created BarkBox as a subscription dog box service.

This product includes things like a selection of treats and toys for your dog that you could get every month.

This company then later branched out and became Cox & Co. They then offered a variety of different products, including the Bark Bright that we’re looking at today.

The owners recognized that the majority of dog owners weren’t even aware that they needed to be brushing their dog’s teeth. So they wanted to make keeping their pet’s dental hygiene good not only accessible, but simple as well.

Bark bright: How Does It Work

How Does It Work?

Bark Bright works with a combination of the dental chew and the toothpaste. The chew works as a brush. So your dog ends up cleaning its own teeth, without you needing to risk your fingers.

The toothpaste is a specially formulated product that uses enzymes. They not only kill bacteria but also break down debris in your dog’s mouth. This way, food remains don’t get moldy in there or cause any more issues.

It may sound very simple, but that’s kind of the point. This service guarantees that you’ll be able to keep on top of your dog’s dental hygiene in the easiest way possible.

Best of all is that you’ll start to see some serious improvements to your dog’s mouth and breath in a matter of weeks.

How Much Does It All Cost?

So, the package that you’ll need will depend on the size of your dog. However the general price range that you’ll need to be looking at is between $30 and $35 per dog each month.

Obviously if you want to use this service for multiple dogs then that price will go up. It doesn’t look as though they have any multi-buy deals.

Luckily, this company doesn’t charge for shipping. So the cost of the box is all you’ll have to pay. Personally I think it’s a really good price for the peace of mind that will come with knowing that your box is going to be delivered every month. Plus, you wont need to worry about your pet’s dental health.

Where Does Bark Bright Ship To?

At the moment, Bark Bright only ships within the US, Canada, and to US territories. I don’t know if there are any plans to expand from this, but right now these are the only options.

All of the products are made and put together in the US. But some of the ingredients have been sourced from Finland.

There is a policy that would give you a full refund if you happen to be unsatisfied with the product that you have received.

However, you can also purchase Bark Bright products at stores or via Amazon. This greatly increases the number of people that will be able to access it.

Bottom Line

Bark Bright is a subscription service that takes the hassle out of trying to keep on top of your furry-friend’s dental hygiene. If this is something that you generally struggle with, then you should seriously consider using this company.

It’s not that much money to ensure that your dog’s mouth and teeth stay healthy, which minimizes the chance of needing to rack up vet bills in the future.

The customer service is friendly and approachable, and ready to help if anything is not to your satisfaction. Best of all, their products get great results.

Personally, I think that Bark Bright is definitely worth your money.
